When you use carma services, you trust us with your information. This Privacy Policy is meant to help you understand what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it.

Information we collect

We collect information to provide better services to all of our customers. For example we use aggregated website data to improve your experience browsing the site. We collect information in the following ways:

Information you give us

In order to initiate a transaction with carma we’ll ask for personal information, like your name, email address, phone number, and address. Sometimes to verify it’s really you, we may ask you to login through a social media account, like Facebook.

Device Data

We automatically receive and store certain types of information including browser, internet protocol (IP) address, time of visit, and content viewed.

Log Data

When you use our services or view content provided by carma, we automatically collect and store information including: details of how you used our service, such as vehicles searched.

Location Data

When you use carma services, we may collect and process information about your actual location. We use various technologies to do this including your IP address and other sensors, that may provide carma with other information such as Wi-Fi access points.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use technologies to collect and store information when you visit a carma site, and this may include Cookies to identify your browser or device. We also may store data locally (including personal information) using browser web storage and application data caches.

Third Parties

We use third party tools, such as Google Analytics, and Facebook Remarketing. We may receive information from third parties, such as consumer credit agencies.

How we use information we collect

We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, guard, improve, and build our products, content, advertising, and services. For example: to offer you personalized content, such as recent vehicle searches and value estimates to respond to you when you contact us. When you contact carma, we keep a record of your communication to help solve any issues you might be facing.

We may use your email address to update you about services and offers, such as a bonus trade in tax on trucks. We use information from cookies, and other technologies, like tracking tags, to improve everyone’s experience and the overall quality of our services.

carma processes personal information on our services in many countries around the world. We may process your personal information on a server located outside the country where you reside. If ownership or control of all or part of carma changes we may transfer your information to the new owner.

We do not share personal information with companies, groups, or individuals outside of carma unless one of the following applies:

With your consent

For example, if you submit a credit application, we will use your information to seek credit approval from financial institutions on your behalf.

For external processing

For example, we may use third party tools such as Inspectlet to record complete sessions. If we do so we take measures to protect sensitive information.

For legal reasons

We cooperate fully with all legal government requests.

Information security

We work hard to protect carma systems and customers from unauthorized access, change, disclosure, or deletion of information. We encrypt many services using SSL. We may require certain additional verification to perform certain actions, such as SMS verification prior to booking an appointment. We restrict access to personal information to carma employees who need to know the information in order to process it, such as a credit application.

Changes

Our Privacy Policy may change from time to time. We will post any privacy policy changes on this page and, if the changes are significant, we will provide a more prominent notice (including, for certain services, email notification of privacy policy changes).

Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation

To comply with Canada’s new anti-spam legislation, we are required to obtain your express consent in order to send electronic messages. By toggling the checkbox next to “I agree to be contacted by carma” you agree you would like to be contacted regarding the request you are submitting, regarding current and upcoming promotions, newsletters, publications, announcements, invitations, customer satisfaction, service maintenance, etc. by commercial electronic messages (e.g. email, text messages).
