Milestones - Carma Developers

We’ve hit many high points over our 50 years in business. Follow the timeline for a few of the most significant moments in Carma history.

1958: Carma named after daughter and wife (Carol and Margaret) of Albert Bennet; one of the founders.

1959: Rosemont, Carma’s first community, officially opens.

1968: Carma sells 28% of the single family and duplex lots in Calgary.

1971: Roy Wilson is named President of Carma.

1972: Carma becomes a public traded company in Canada.

1974: Carma has business operations in 6 Canadian cities.

1977: Carma enters the US market for the first time in Houston, Texas.

1980: Carma has offices in Denver, Houston, San Francisco and Seattle.

1985: Murray Fox is named President of Carma.

1989: Carma acquires 3,000 acres of land in Southeastern Calgary, Alberta.

1994: Alan Norris becomes President and CEO of Carma.

1997: Carma enters into the Denver market.

1998: Carma celebrates its 40th Anniversary

1999: Carma becomes a private company of Brookfield Properties.

2000: Tallyn’s Reach officially opens in Denver and is named “Community of the Year”.

2001: Lake Summerside, the first lake community in Edmonton Alberta, officially opens.

2003: Heartland Homes wins its 8th Calgary Customer Choice Award in Alberta.

2006: Carma purchases assets of Shoal Creek Valley, a golf course community in Kansas City Missouri.

2007: Blanco Vista officially opens in Austin Texas.

2008: Carma House, a support centre for cancer survivors, is built as part of Carma's 50th Anniversary initiative.

2008: Carma opens office in Victoria, British Columbia.
